Summer is finally here! We all know that usually means a very hot car when you get in it during the afternoon and early evening hours. If it is 90 degrees out, the inside temperature of you car is probably 110 to 120 degree Fahrenheit due to the greenhouse effect. Most people will get in the car, turn on the Max AC button and start driving. The Max AC button actually recirculates the cabin air, so you are going to be cooling the very hot cabin air and, consequently, not cooling off your cabin very quickly. In order to cool your car cabin quickly follow these easy steps:
- Start the engine and immediately open up all the windows.
- Turn on the Air Conditioning, but keep the windows open.
- Start driving. After 30-seconds to a minute the 120 degree air in your cabin should have been replaced with the 90 degree air from the outside.
- At this point your AC should be blowing cool air and you can put up your windows and turn the dial to Max AC.
If your AC is blowing warm air, the AC system should be checked. Most likely it only needs recharging. In order to test the system properly the refrigerant needs to be removed and a vacuum placed on the system for at least 45 minutes. If no leaks are detected during this test the system can be recharged and should be good to go. AtWayne’s Automotive we can recharge your AC system and perform any repairs that may be required.
